First SOS Cagarro Scientific Rescue Patrol organised by OKEANOS!

Last Thursday, 29 October, 12 volunteers joined the first SOS Cagarro rescue patrol organised by OKEANOS in the city of Horta.

During the patrol, we managed to rescue three juvenile Cory’s shearwaters, disoriented by artificial lighting, and record the exact location where each bird was found using a data collection form.

At the end of the patrol, the three birds were handed directly to the Nature Rangers, who were also carrying out rescue patrols across the island. We know they were left in good hands, awaiting their safe release back into the wild!

A huge thank you to all the volunteers who joined this first patrol and helped protect one of the Azores' most emblematic seabird species!
