On 19 October, Ana Colaço,participated in the Digital Ocean panel at Deep Téc4Ocean, held at the Técnico Innovation Center (TIC) in Lisbon. Deep Téc4Ocean brings together stakeholders from research, engineering, industry and innovation to discuss challenges and opportunities shaping the future of the ocean sector.
The Digital Ocean panel focused on the role of digital technologies in transforming our relationship with the ocean, bringing together perspectives from scientific research, engineering, ocean observation, project development and technological innovation.
Alongside Ana Colaço, the panel featured Nuno Nunes, Full Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico and President of the Interactive Technologies Institute; Inês Martins, oceanographer at the Portuguese Hydrographic Institute; Filipe Brandão, Senior Project Manager at OSMV; and Daniela Falcão Machado, representing Técnico Debate Club. The discussion was moderated by Tanya Silveira, Coordinator of the Ships and Oceanographic Equipment Unit.
The diversity of backgrounds represented in the panel highlighted the importance of collaboration between research institutions, engineering, industry and other stakeholders in developing digital solutions for the ocean. From oceanographic observation and data collection to technological development, these approaches can help expand our understanding of marine environments and support more informed decision-making.
Ana Colaço’s participation provided an opportunity to bring OKEANOS’ scientific perspective to this discussion, contributing to the exchange of ideas on how digital innovation can support ocean knowledge, sustainable management and the development of the blue economy.
