About

PhD student studying the 3-dimensional movement patterns of blue sharks (Prionace glauca) and sicklefin devil-rays (Mobula tarapacana) in the Azores Archipelago, specifically the relationship between environmental temperature and the species diving behavior. By developing a greater understanding of these species diving behavior and thermal tolerance we hope to determine how the species thermoregulatory strategies influence their distribution within the region. The goal is to provide this information to the Azores Regional Government to inform decisions surrounding the expansion of MPA's within the Azores Exclusive Economic Zone to ensure that the regional blue shark and devil ray populations recieve sufficient protection now and in the future.
