OKEANOS welcomed a group of students and teaching staff from the University of Exeter Summer Course for two days of learning, exchange and discovery.

Throughout their visit, OKEANOS researchers presented their work across a range of marine science topics.

Gui Menezes introduced the lectures by explain the different types of marine research made at OKEANOS, while Ana Martins spoke about the Oceanography of the Azores Region and the Master’s in Integrated Ocean Studies. Inês Gomes presented research on coastal monitoring and emerging human pressures, and Eva Giacomello shared insights into monitoring demersal fish in the Azores. The programme also included Sergi Pérez-Jorge, who presented OKEANOS research on cetaceans.

Beyond the talks, the students had the opportunity to meet researchers, exchange ideas and learn more about the work being carried out at OKEANOS and in the Azores.

O OKEANOS recebeu um grupo de estudantes e docentes do Curso de Verão da Universidade de Exeter, para dois dias de partilha, aprendizagem e contacto com a investigação marinha desenvolvida nos Açores.

Gui Menezes deu início às apresentações, apresentando os diferentes tipos de investigação marinha desenvolvidos no OKEANOS. Ana Martins falou sobre a Oceanografia da Região dos Açores e sobre o Mestrado em Estudos Integrados do Oceano. Inês Gomes apresentou trabalho dedicado à monitorização costeira face a novas pressões de origem humana, enquanto Eva Giacomello partilhou o seu trabalho sobre a monitorização de peixes demersais nos Açores. O programa incluiu ainda uma apresentação de Sergi Pérez-Jorge sobre a investigação de cetáceos desenvolvida no OKEANOS.

Os estudantes tiveram ainda a oportunidade de conhecer melhor o Mestrado em Estudos Integrados do Oceano e de trocar ideias e experiências diretamente com investigadores do OKEANOS.
