Foraging ecology and acoustic communication of sperm whales (RV OceanXplorer)

Foraging ecology and acoustic communication of sperm whales in the scope of Projects SUMMER “Sustainable management of mesopelagic resources” and MEESO “Ecologically and economically sustainable mesopelagic fisheries”. Objectives: sperm whales tagged with multi-sensor tags to record their movements and behaviour over time; concurrent active acoustic data, using a scientific echosounder Simrad EK80, and water samples for eDNA were collected to characterize the prey and oceanographic landscape to contextualize sperm whale movements and behaviour.
