A 𝘙𝘶𝘨𝘶𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘹 𝘰𝘬𝘢𝘮𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘦, detetada pela primeira vez nos Açores em 2019, é atualmente considerada a bioinvasão marinha mais agressiva registada no arquipélago, com impactos significativos nos ecossistemas costeiros e em atividades como o turismo, o lazer e a pesca. Esta investigação reúne conhecimento científico sobre a biologia, distribuição e impactos desta espécie invasora, explorando também soluções para a sua mitigação e o potencial de valorização da biomassa.
Junte-se a este momento de partilha e debate sobre um dos maiores desafios ambientais que os Açores enfrentam atualmente.

ENG Presentation of the Multidisciplinary Study on the Invasive Alga Rugulopteryx okamurae in the Autonomous Region of the Azores

The Regional Directorate for Maritime Policies and the University of the Azores invite the community to attend the public presentation of the Multidisciplinary Study on the Invasive Alga Rugulopteryx okamurae in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.

First detected in the Azores in 2019, Rugulopteryx okamurae is now considered the most aggressive marine bioinvasion ever recorded in the archipelago, with significant impacts on coastal ecosystems and activities such as tourism, recreation, and fisheries.

This study brings together scientific knowledge on the biology, distribution, and impacts of this invasive species, while also exploring mitigation strategies and the potential for biomass valorisation.
