The MicroSent – Microbial Sentinels: Harnessing Data Science and Ecosystem Insights for Sustainable Coastal and Ocean Management and (re)Breathing Forests projects were presented at the 9th European Conference on Scientific Diving (ECSD9), held from 15–19 June 2026 at the Public Library and Regional Archive of Ponta Delgada, São Miguel Island, Azores.

Representing the MicroSent project, Clara Loureiro (OKEANOS / Gaspar Frutuoso Foundation) and João Ferraria (7 Mares Diving School) delivered the oral presentation "From Fins to Findings: MicroSent as a Platform for Diving-Based Microbial Monitoring", highlighting an innovative microbial monitoring platform based on scientific diving.
The (re)Breathing Forests project was represented by David Milla and Luís Silva (OKEANOS / IMAR), who delivered an oral presentation on the project's contribution to the study and conservation of Azorean kelp forests through the use of technical diving with rebreathers.

The participation of both projects showcased OKEANOS research and fostered new opportunities for international scientific collaboration.

PT Os projetos MicroSent – Microbial Sentinels: Harnessing Data Science and Ecosystem Insights for Sustainable Coastal and Ocean Management e (re)Breathing Forests estiveram representados na 9.ª European Conference on Scientific Diving (ECSD9), que decorreu entre 15 e 19 de junho de 2026, na Biblioteca Pública e Arquivo Regional de Ponta Delgada, na ilha de São Miguel.

Em representação do projeto MicroSent, Clara Loureiro (OKEANOS / Fundação Gaspar Frutuoso) e João Ferraria (Escola de Mergulho 7 Mares) apresentaram a comunicação oral "From Fins to Findings: MicroSent as a Platform for Diving-Based Microbial Monitoring", dedicada ao desenvolvimento de uma plataforma inovadora de monitorização microbiana baseada no mergulho científico.

O projeto (re)Breathing Forests esteve representado pelos investigadores David Milla e Luís Silva (OKEANOS / IMAR), que apresentaram uma comunicação oral sobre o projeto e o seu contributo para o estudo e conservação das florestas marinhas de laminárias nos Açores através do mergulho técnico com rebreathers.

A participação na conferência permitiu divulgar o trabalho desenvolvido pelos dois projetos, promover a troca de conhecimentos com especialistas internacionais e reforçar oportunidades de colaboração científica. Como destacam os investigadores do projeto (re)Breathing Forests, "o congresso permitiu dar visibilidade ao projeto (re)Breathing Forests e estabelecer novas colaborações para aprofundar a conservação das florestas marinhas na Europa".
