No passado dia 3 de julho, o OKEANOS UAc recebeu uma delegação da Comissão de Assuntos Parlamentares, Ambiente e Desenvolvimento Sustentável da Assembleia Legislativa da Região Autónoma dos Açores e da Comissão de Transição Ecológica e Energia do Parlamento das Canárias, no âmbito da cimeira "Encontro Parlamentar Açores–Canárias: Pontes Atlânticas para a Sustentabilidade".

A visita proporcionou uma oportunidade para apresentar a missão do Instituto de Investigação em Ciências do Mar, as suas principais áreas de investigação, as infraestruturas científicas e o trabalho desenvolvido pelo OKEANOS na investigação e conservação dos ecossistemas marinhos dos Açores.

A visita reforçou a importância do diálogo entre a comunidade científica e os decisores políticos, promovendo a cooperação entre os arquipélagos da Macaronésia na construção de soluções para um futuro mais sustentável.

ENG On July 3th, the OKEANOS Institute of Marine Sciences at the University of the Azores welcomed a delegation from the Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, Environment and Sustainable Development of the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of the Azores and the Committee on Ecological Transition and Energy of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, the "Azores–Canary Islands Parliamentary Meeting: Atlantic Bridges for Sustainability".

The visit provided an opportunity to present the Institute's mission, main research areas, scientific facilities, and the work carried out by OKEANOS in marine science research and the conservation of the Azores' marine ecosystems.

During the meeting, participants discussed key challenges and opportunities in marine science, highlighting OKEANOS' contribution to advancing scientific knowledge that supports biodiversity conservation, sustainable ocean management, and evidence-based policymaking.

The visit reinforced the importance of dialogue between the scientific community and policymakers, fostering cooperation between the Macaronesian archipelagos in addressing shared sustainability challenges.
