Our colleague Filipe Porteiro is participating in the EMBRC Scientific Days, the biennial event of the European Marine Biological Resource Centre (EMBRC), taking place at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
EMBRC brings together 86 scientific institutions from 10 European countries, with the mission of providing access to marine ecosystems and biological resources through services for researchers and companies, supported by research infrastructures and scientific expertise.
The participating institutions are organised into national nodes: IMAR and the University of the Azores are associated members of the Portuguese node, EMBRC-PT.
The EMBRC Scientific Days aim to strengthen collaboration among partners and working groups while consolidating this research network to better fulfil its mission, both now and in the future.
EMBRC-PT is included in Portugal’s National Roadmap of Research Infrastructures, making its partner institutions eligible for dedicated national and regional public funding.
In this context, IMAR recently signed an agreement with the Regional Directorate for Science, Innovation and Development for a project to acquire new scientific diving equipment. These new resources will enhance the capabilities of IMAR and OKEANOS in coastal and ocean research, while also expanding services available to European researchers interested in conducting work in the Azores within the framework of EMBRC.
PT O nosso colega Filipe Porteiro está a participar no EMBRC Scientific Days, o evento bianual da infraestrutura European Marine Biology Resources Centers (EMBRC), que está a acontecer na Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Esta infraestrutura, que inclui 86 instituições científicas de 10 países europeus, tem como objetivo proporcionar acesso aos ecossistemas e recursos biológicos marinhos, através de serviços a investigadores e empresas, disponibilizando infraestruturas de investigação e conhecimento científico.
As instituições científicas estão organizadas em nós por país: o IMAR e a Universidade dos Açores são instituições associadas ao nó nacional da infraestrutura, o EMBRC-PT.
O evento EMBRC Scientific Days tem por objetivo incrementar a colaboração entre os parceiros e grupos de trabalho e consolidar esta rede de investigação no presente e no futuro para que cumpra melhor com os seus objetivos. O EMBRC-PT está listado no Roteiro Nacional de Infraestruturas de Investigação científica e como tal, as instituições científicas parceiras são elegíveis para financiamento público nacional e regional dedicado.
Neste contexto, é de referir que recentemente o IMAR contratualizou com a Direção Regional da Ciência, Inovação e Desenvolvimento um projeto de aquisição de novos equipamentos de mergulho científico, que permitirão capacitar a instituição e o OKEANOS na investigação costeira e oceânica e disponibilizar serviços a investigadores europeus interessados em trabalhar na região, no quadro do EMBRC.
